Sagging, folding and lines may appear on the face in years due to aging, smoking, damaging effects of the sun. Aging also causes loss of facial fat tissue and changes in bony structure. These changes may give the face an old, tired expression.

Different methods of face lift can be applied in order to reverse these changes and achieve a young, healthy appearance. The aim of the surgery is removal of lines and folds of the facial skin, reducing the sagging and achievement of a prominent jaw line.

In classical face lift method the cut follows a line towards the hair line along the ear tragus, ear interior and the area under the ear. If the neck midline or fat tissue under the jaw needs treatment a smaller cut under the jaw can be added to the procedure.

Temporary swelling and bruising can be observed following the procedure. Swelling and bruises begin to disappear in 6-7 days. The stitches are removed on the 5th-7th day.

Yaşlanma, sigara kullanımı, güneşin zararlı etkileri nedeniyle yıllar içerisinde yüz cildinde gevşeme, sarkma ve çizgiler meydana gelebilmektedir. Yine yaşla beraber yüzde cilt altı yağ dokusunda kayıp ve kemik yapıda değişiklikler meydana gelir. Bu değişiklikler yüze yaşlı, yorgun bir ifade verebilir.
Yüz cildindeki bu değişikliklerin geri döndürülerek genç, sağlıklı bir ifade elde edilmesi için farklı yüz germe teknikleri uygulanabilir. Kişinin yaşı, doku deformasyon düzeyi ve cilt tipine göre yapılacak değerlendirme sonucu en uygun metot belirlenir. Cerrahide amaç çizgi ve katlanışların mümkün olduğunca azaltılması, gevşeme ve sarkmaların düzeltilmesi, çene hattının ortaya çıkartılmasıdır.
Klasik yüz germe ameliyatlarında yanak ve boyun bölgesindeki sarkmaların ve kırışıklıkların giderilmesi amaçlanır. Özellikle boyun ve çene bölgesindeki ciltte sarkma ve kırışıklıkları belirgin olan, yüz derin dokuları daha iyi durumda olan kişilerde bu metot tercih edilir. Hastanın ihtiyacına göre gıdı bölgesindeki fazlalık ve deformasyonlara aynı seansta müdahale edilebilir.
Klasik yüz germe ameliyatında kesi şakak bölgesinden, kulak önü, kulak içi, kulak memesinin altı, kulak arkasından saçlı deriye uzanan bir yol izler. Gıdı veya boyun orta hatta yağ fazlalığı veya cilt altı kas yapısında düzeltilmesi gereken bir sorun var ise çene altında ufak bir kesi eklenebilir.

Yüz germe operasyonları sonrasında yüzde geçici süre ile şişlik ve morarma olabilir. Yüzde oluşan morluk ve şişlikler 6 veya 7 gün sonra kaybolmaya başlar. Dikişler 5 ile 7 gün arasında alınmaktadır.
